Among the first things, Daniel Lemberg reverse-engineered the Warcraft II map file (*.pud) format and created the first third-party map editor. Manual Download.

A general cry of help out to the community. My post to Blizzard technical support:
'I own a copy of Warcraft 2 Battle.net Edition. I recently purchased a new upgraded computer. I like to have all of my old game files for playing. I installed Warcraft 2 Battle.net Edition on my new computer, and I want to transfer my saved games from my old computer. I have read the forums, and tried www.google.com, but I cannot seem to find the saved game files on my old computer. Please help! I had beaten Tides of Darkness, and was working on Beyond the Dark Portal, and I don't want to lose all of my progress (or have to hook my old computer back up just to play). I've looked the installed folder (C:Program FilesWarcraft II BNE) and have even copied all of those files over to my new computer. The game launches and plays just fine, but it does not have any of the saved games. Any help would be much appreciated.'
Blizzard response (at least it came from a real person):
'Alas, we no longer make or support Warcraft II :('
So. Same question, can anyone remember where the heck the save game files are located?
Thanks.
Did you tried %appdata%?
Yes. C:UsersMeAppData is clear, at least of recognizable files. If anyone knows what extension the save files are, or if they have a recognizable naming convention, that would also be helpful.
Bump. Anyone old school around?
If I recall correctly the saved games were put into the game directory. That was the thing back then. If not there you can check your documents.
Last bump.
/sigh
What OS are you using on the old computer?
If you do a search for Warcraft on your computer, it should return all folders/files with that name. I'm sure the save folder has that at least at the root.
It's probably in your user folder on the account that you played.
I've never played that game but I have had to search for save files for other games.
Hey man,I was having the same problem and I stumbled upon this thread. After searching forever for the save files, I finally found them.
Here is where they were for me.
C:UsersBarrettAppDataLocalVirtualStoreProgram Files (x86)Warcraft II BNESave
Hope that helps brother.
I had a similar issue. I started over again, but on my new ALIENWARE computer after I installed the game again and started from scratch. I no longer have the option to play or continue after the portal was destroyed on the ORC ide and after the alliance was all killed on the Human side. is there a file missing or maybe corrupted on my disc?
you can probably get most maps on the server war2ru thats where most people play it at heres the website http://server.war2.ru/modules/news/
there was no way of getting the files on my old computer because it crashed and I had to by a new one, so I am not concerned about finding the OLD files anymore. I just want to continue and play the BEYOND the dark portal part again. any suggestions?
I never actually played online yet....I just want to beat the game it self first.....I don't think I am good enough to play online. I am not one of those computer GURU type people at all. I just want to be able to get back to the part of the game that was beyond the portal.

I just installed Warcraft 3 Reign of Chaos (downloaded from Battle.net) on my Windows 8 x64 machine and I updated it straight away to the latest patch via Battle.net. I've started up a campaign and made some saves but I can't locate the save files.
They used to be located in Program FilesWarcraft IIISave or something like (that is, I remember this from years ago on a different computer) that but I have no such folder! Am I missing something?

Theyre inside the warcraft 3 install folder.
Here's a screenshot. As I said in my post, no save folder inside the Warcraft III folder.

I tried to take a screenshot of my saved games to show everyone that I do in fact have saved games, but now I've noticed that not only am I missing a saved games folder, but I'm missing a screen shots folder!
I read this from a Blizzard website (http://classic.battle.net/war3/faq/war3guide.shtml):
Hold down Control and hit the Print Screen button. This button is located to the right of the F12 key on most keyboards. The screenshot will be placed in the Screenshots directory in the Warcraft III directory as '**.tga.'

I did this, and it said something like 'screenshot saved,' but no screenshot folder appears. Again, reference the screenshot I took of my Warcraft III folder: I have no screen shot folder nor a saved games folder in this directory!
james2c19v,
You mentioned you just installed the game, but there are game files in your screenshot dating back to 2004. Did you copy this installation from somewhere else?
You may want to fully uninstall the game files and then install them again from the website.
The save folder should be in the root Warcraft 3 folder and contain your game profiles as well as any saves.

Thanks for joining the conversation Jurannok.
I assure you this is a brand new installation. I used the downloader from the website (Downloader_Warcraft3_Reign_of_Chaos_enUS.exe, downloaded April 30th from https://us.battle.net/account/management/digital-download.xml?product=WAR3&platform=win&lang=en-US). Some of those 2006 dates in the screenshot just reflect when they were created by Blizzard.
I have campaign progress and multiple saved games, but I have no idea where the folders are on my system. A system-wide search for things like 'save' and 'screenshots' yields nothing.
Okay I've solved the initial mystery. Windows 8 doesn't like doing a full hard drive search by default but I was able to do so in Windows Explorer.
The files are located in %userprofile%appdatalocalvirtualstoreprogram files (x86)Warcraft III
Files are put here when a program doesn't have administrative privileges to put them elsewhere. I'm an administrator on my machine, but I haven't been running Warcraft III as an administrator. This is the default behavior in Windows so hopefully this thread helps anyone else who's looking for their files.
james2c19v,
The virtual store is only used on applications in the Program Files folder. If you move the game install somewhere else on your hard drive, it will be able to save updates to the game folder as well.

StayFan,
Did you check the virtual store as mentioned in the posts above?

I have been playing Warcraft 3 on my new laptop, running Windows 10. I recently got another new PC, a desktop, which also runs Windows 10. How can I transfer the save data onto my PC so I can pick up where I left off on my laptop? I tried looking in all of my Warcraft 3 folders and I see nothing that looks like a save file. I also tried searching for all of the locations that were mentioned in this thread (%userprofile%appdatalocalvirtualstoreprogram, Program FilesWarcraft IIISave, etc.) and anywhere else I could think of. None of these searches returned anything. Does anybody have any advice? I really don't want to start the game over from the beginning again. Thanks!
Just have a look in the Registry:
ComputerHKEY_USERSS-1-5-21-XXXXXSoftwareBlizzard EntertainmentWarcraft III
There is a Key like 'User Game Save Folder' with the Path in it.
C:UsersuserSaved GamesWarcraft III
I have canged it to 'D:OnedriveSaved GamesWarcraft III' which let me sync it with OneDrive so i can play my Saves on every Device i want.
I can confirm this is correct. The April 2017 1.28 warcraft 3 patch has, for some reason, moved the saved games from the game folder to C:users(user here)Saved GamesWarcraft III. Which is odd considering the point of this consolidation was to have everything in the (documentswarcraft III) folder.
My saves aren't even turning up there. I've tried everything that people have suggested and I can't find my save files
